Soil Nutrition & Tree Fertilization

How Our Tree Fertilization and Soil Amendment Service Works

  • First I assess the current state of our client’s property. I sample the soil, inspect the irrigation system, and look at all of the plants growing in the area. I look for telltale signs of underlying problems. I will often have a soil laboratory provide analysis if I suspect major imblanaces or disease.
  • I then develop a soil and irrigation remediation plan based on my fiendings. Noting that irrigation issues are often closely correlated to soil and plant health problems (too frequent watering is often the #1 issue).
  • I then procure and apply the necessary elements using a complete organic fertilizer source that is naturally slow release, and will require intermediate processing by soil microbes. When we feed the soil at the microbial level, we can be assured the plants will be delivered with nutrition specifically created for their needs. No synthetic fertilizers will be used. These interrupt the symbiotic relationship between microbes and the plant. They also can even kill off beneficial soil organisms. I may apply compost, beneficial microbial innoculants, key soil minerals / micronutrients, compost tea/ humates/ humenctants, carbohydrates, and mulch. All of these additives are used to help build good soil structure, improve gas exchange and water holding capacity, and increase cation exchange capacity (the ability for th esoil to hold and excnage nutrients). Our goal is to bring the soil in on the customer’s property back to a condition found in nature- balanced and full life!
    • Finally, we follow up and schedule any needed additional analysis and touch up. Correcting soil imbalances, and providing trees/shrubs/lawns with good nutrition requires an ongoing effort. Zachary Smith, arborist, provides our customers with a great deal of education! We show you how to carry out you own long-term plant healthcare program. We often work in partnership with our customers, allowing the customer to address the weekly and monthly touches that are so beneficial to the soil and tree, including constant application of leaf litter mulch, Gardner education to refrain from using the leaf blower to create bare soil, managing the irrigation timer to avoid over watering or drought stress etc.
